Dear Clayarters,

got a number of queries to do with firing a Hoffman Kiln (43 metres =
long, with the inside chambers 3 metres wide and 2.7 metres high), and =
at the moment it is being fired with coal.

Would ITC help to insulate the chambers? We will need to fire to about =
1125C, will coal (the fuel that is being used at present) be able to =
reach that sort of temp. We will be firing roof tiles (hopefully 16,000 =
in each chamber) made from the local clay (Turkey). My last studios were =
in a factory that fired their Hoffmans here in the UK with waste/sump =
oil, the factory has been closed down for over twelve years, so all the =
old hands are no longer around. Is there anybody out there with the =
technical know how on firing with this fuel? Any leads would be =
appreciated.

Happy potting Marek http://www.moley.uk.com=20
