Hi there potters.
It seems to me as if there is not much available on crackle slips. I`ve
searched through the archives and could only get one receipe, the one from
Rhodes. Even Hamer and Hammer do not cover this subject. I was wondering
about it and would like the challenge to try and create one, but since there
is only very little available on this subject and I do not have the indepth
knowledge of raw materials, I will appreciate some discussion on this subject
.. Obviously one will use a body and a surface application that will not fit
each other and then one will use something to make it stick and not flake
off. I read that kaolin and calcined kaolin give a balance for just enough
shrinking. Are those the basis of the receipe?
I know it might sound as if I am falling around here, but are there someone
that can discuss this receipe with us and maybe come up with suggestions for
more receipes? Does anyone know of a discussion in a book maybe?
Here are the ones that I could find:
Custer Feldspar 20
Calcinied kaolin 20 (also called glomax)
Silica 20
Kaolin 15
Ball clay 15
Zircopax 05
Borax 05 and
Fat White to Orange crackle slip.
Borax 0.75
Zircopax 0.75
Custer 3.00
Calcinied Kaolin 3.00
EPK 2.25
OM4 Ball clay 21.25
Flint 3.00
There are a lot of similarities in these receipes, but I did notice a big
difference in the amounts added.
Thanks, I am looking forward to some discussion on this.

Hello Antoinette!
I would offer you to use slip with high shrinkage, perhaps on leatherhard, I
got once such appearance when I covered a groged-body jar, with porcelain
body. In the second fire (to ^6) it shrunk and cracked.
I see you do low fire, try slip with ball clay, or any thing with big
L.O.I.. Apply thick, add C.M.C.
