Hello, I'm considering buying the Olympic 23 Raku Kiln to answer all of
my reduction dreams. Does anyone have experience with these? I'm
wondering how practical it is to fire high temperatures in it. And how
well does this kiln hold upunder high fire conditions? If anyone has one
I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks. Rich

I have an Olympic Raku 23 and have fired it to ^8 several times. Works quite
well. I have a few superfiial cracks in the floor, but all in all, it is in good
shape. I don't know if the cracks are the result of the high firing temps or the
raku firings with rapid heating /rapid cooling. I would think this would be hard
onthe kiln bricks too

Things to consider: The stacking space is not quite what you might expect, since a
final tier of shelves is required on top for a baffle. This is essential if you
want to get even heating in your high fire. Also, consider bracing the top frame
of the kiln to the overhead structure of your shed, to cut down on vibration as you
raise the kiln with the winch. The top pulley may need to be reworked with washers
to allow it to turn freely. I am well pleased with mine, though. it is a lot of
kiln for the money, in my opinion.
