Once more, Aiko-san has given us a valuable contribution. I read you
friend Rob's article on "Use and the Art Experience". I have been
struggling with this for a long time myself, trying to understand why I was
attracted to certain things and found neither sense nor sensibility in
others.
It is a fine piece of writing, as his works are find pots.

Konnichiwa, Aiko..... I really enjoyed seeing Shiro Otani's photos and pots
and enjoyed reading his thoughts and evolution of concept and direction... I
retired from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville 2 years ago as Professor
in Art Education and am a potter.... I met Shiro when he was at our University
and worked a little with him on the anagama at Arrowmont... also was fortunate
to visit him in 1993 in Shigaraki... he was a very kind host, toured me
through the new school and museum and had tea in his home with his wife... a
wonderful day... so it was great to see this website and enjoy those
memories... we were looking at his kilns and he reached down, picked up a
little bottle, wiped it off and gave it to me... I looked for an email address
for Shiro but did not see one... does he have an email address?... thank you
again for your website that gave me this very wonderful experience... dewa
mata... Paul Watkins
