artimater, "kickass" art, and words

Maybe it is my time to be slapped around a little bit, but I am going to
defend Don Tucker other wise known as "artimater".

I find his posts a little hair raising at times, BUT what I mostly do is
read his posts with a grain of salt. He is the devil's advocate on these
issues of pricing. He makes some really good points because really, we do
undervalue and under price what we make. I know I have many times. I have
found that I get a better "price" for my work when I actually trade pots for
something else from another potter, painter, weaver, drawer, whatever title
you want to give someone else who makes something else. Heck, I am trying
to make a really good pot right now to give another potter who is bisqueing
my work for me. I figure when she sees a pot that is finished that she
really loves, well then it will be hers. Don has a "devil may care" or "the
devil-who cares?" attitude in regard to his postings, but that is what makes
me think at times about his posts and points.

There have been times when others have come across a little brisk in their
responses or posts about certain subjects, but I don't just delete them
because I may not like the tone of voice that comes through. I read them,
glean out what useful knowledge there may be, and discard the fact that if I
took it personally, it may hurt my feelings. Heck, I get a little tactless
myself, so I read a lot of stuff with a grain of salt and don't worry about
the intentions. My goal this year is to be more tactful (sure, maybe I will
learn tact) and patience. I like straight shooters because you always know
where they are at. Don? He just likes to cause a little uproar, but in that
uproar, some good things are bound to come out, don't you think?

As far as running people off and doing more damage than good, well, we all
run the risk of doing damage to someone else with words, BUT if people are
ran off because of his words, then I think that they wouldn't have stayed
around long anyway. I have learned to pick my fights and let the others go.
Just because I don't agree with you (meaning anyone, not one person in
particular here) doesn't mean I am not listening nor learning something from
you.

My best regards to all!

PS Don, I looked at your website, you would have been better off not posting
it! I did like some of your pots, but "kickass" art did not come to mind.
Why don't you scan some (the "kickass" art you are talking about) of it, and
repost it to your website. The present pictures really didn't help your case
at all. Sorry! :)
