I have the opportunity to buy a 9 year old oval Olympic Kiln 25X36X27.
The guy said it has never been used and that he got it wired to fire to
cone 10. It also comes with shelves and stilts. It had some firebrick
damage when it was moved. It has always been stored in-doors. It has a
kiln sitter. He's asking $1,000. This will be my first kiln. I had
been thinking of getting a Skutt 1027 but this opportunity has
surfaced. It seems new ones that size cost $2000. Is this a good
price? Is it is good idea to get a kiln that has no warranty when I am
not experienced with repairing kilns on my own? Thanks for any advice.

Rachael, Re: used kiln price -- Was this by any chance in the Atlanta
area? I had same experience. Try Bennettpottery.com and you can get a
brand new Olympic cone 10 w/sitter for less. I bought an Olympic 7cf cone
10 w/computer controller for $1160. I picked it up myself as Olympic is
near Atlanta, but Bennett ships anywhere. Try their site. Roseanne

Dear Rachael,
It sounds great to me! Lucky you. If it is in as good of shape as he
says, you have a good deal.
I wouldn't worry about a warranty. At that price, if you need to repair
anything, you still come out ahead. Skutt is a reputable company and
will still help you if you need it.
