The human bone ash workshop: Funerary Pottery at Continents End, has started at
Esalen Institute, Big Sur, Calif.
This workshop listed in the Esalen catalog for February 4-9 and on the web at:
www.esalen.org has drawn 5 participants, led by Noel Oard Mapstead
We have cremated ashes of one cat, three dogs, two humans and one human alive with
bone from a recent operation
During the week participants will make ceramic vessels, including human bone china
Specially designed glazes to enhance the character of bone ash will be prepared by
each participant with the addition of 2-5% bone ash, glazed over each vessel
In this manner, the spirit may be honored
Upcoming pictures will be posted on the web at: www.mapstead.com/noel
This workshop is dedicated to the short story, The Potters of Firsk, by Jack Vance;
The late Lloyd Baskerville, ceramic teacher at Carmel High School; and ceramist Hal
Riegger
