To Clayarters-
Can you believe that it is just about a month till we meet in North
Carolina...so it is time to make your mugs.......or glaze your mugs or pick
out your mugs... for our clayart mug exchange...see you there
Let's do it again-exchange mugs in the ClayArt suite( Omni
Charlotte Hotel) at the NCECA convention.(The NCECA Conference is March
28-31 in Charlotte ,NC)
1. make a mug-(no bigger than 9"x9"x9") actually make 2 and donate one to
the NCECA scholarship fund.
2. Please TIE your card or your name to the handle of your mug(it would
be wonderful if you would include the method of construction,clay-cone
fired -glaze on the card )Put another loose card on the inside of the mug
to be used for the exchange.
3. Bring your mugs to the NCECA convention
4. Drop off your Clayart mug at the Clayart Hospitality room.(Omni Hotel
sponsered by Pottery Making Illustrated)
5 On Friday afternoon(March 30th) come to the exchange at 6pm and pick up
your new mug made by another Clayart member.
6. It is not possible to take part in this exchange unless you plan to be
at the convention or have someone bring it to the convention for you.
We will put the extra cards of the participants in a hat and then draw
the names of the mug's new owner.

To Clayarters-
Time to get your mugs ready for NCECA..
okay well make them quick there are only three weeks left....
AT HOME: Would you please attach your card on the outside of your mug with
string through the handle(please include clay, firing and glaze
information) and then put another card with your name on the inside of the
mug. Having mugs ready for the exchange will make it easier for the
Muggetts to have a speedy exchange.
AT NCECA :When you bring your mug to the clayart hospitality room please
find the appropriate alphabetical location to set it down...there should be
signs for the alphabetical locations...ALSO please sign the main list so
that your name can be published on Clayart. It will be on a clipboard in
the Clayart room.
The exchange will take place at 6PM on friday night....in the
Clayart room. The room will be closed at 5:30 so we can get organized and
then reopen exactly at 6pm (according to David Hendley' s watch)for the
exchange...

The mayor suggested that we contact the people who's mug we received and
let them know who received their mug. Neither the person I got a mug
from nor the person my friend got a mug from left e-mail addresses to
send to.

did anybody pick up some extras? We would like to be considered part of the

Ok, I don't wanna be mean or anything here, but I specifically remember
hearing when the announcement was made that one had to be present to
participate in the mug exchange. It's always been that way AFAIK. Not fair
to the others who can't go, otherwise. That's why there's a stay at home
exchange as well.

Howdy,
Does "being present" mean be at NCECA or be at the actual clayart mug
exchange at the exact moment of exchange? "Not to be mean or anything" but
be specific. "Stay at home" means stay at home and NOT go to NCECA as far as
I'm concerned.
The grandmotherly, community school student I brought to her 1st NCECA from
Utah has a grandson headlining a musical show in Myrtle Beach, we already
had the tickets arranged well before we knew when the mug exchange was going
to be, and I guess the show and family connections for her were worth more
than sticking around in Charlotte.
Am I sorry I missed out on the mug exchange? Not when you figure out what I,
and my travelling companion would have missed out on. Did I have time to
hang out with the Mayor, get great feedback from fellow Clayarters, and soak
up the ambience that is NCECA? Yes, Yes, and Yes! Am I broken-hearted that I
didn't get to swap sweat in an overcrowded little room to maybe take home
one of your priceless mugs? Not!
I got the best part of NCECA with the memories we brought home. I guess
those will just have to do.
Lee Burningham
Happy to be home and back in my dirty little classroom with a bunch of
hardworking kids.

Lee,
That was my understanding, however, I stand corrected. The mayor sez it
means just get to NCECA. He also said that Kathy has the remaining balance
of mugs, so maybe you can get one from her! :)
PS to Kathy:
Drawing cards from the box is an excellent means of doing such an exchange!

To Clayarters-
Here is the list of names from the NCECA Mug Exchange in the clayart
room... We traded 165 mugs from 150 people in 20 minutes! It was great!
Since we had a bigger room for the exchange we could actually meet the
person who made our mugs... if you did not get a chance to meet them in
person please send them an email . We all like to know who is enjoying our
creation.
The credit for the fast and efficent(well almost) mug exchange is
due to the untiring efforts of the Mugettes:
Miki Caldwell-my roomate who helped me down to the last detail,Cheryl
Litman -who was surprised how much fun we had,Harvy Sadow -who would not
quit until all the mugs were gone, David Henley-who carried the official
time,
John Baymore- who preferred to be called Mugger,Jeffery James- who traded
mugs and then saw we could use some extra help, and Fabbienne Cassman who
was our official photographer. Thanks also goes to Barbara Brown who took
our official Mug Exchange Photo this year. We had lots of fun.. if your
name is on the list this year... thanks.... and if not we look forward to
including you next year in Kansas city.

The 15th Annual Clayart Mug Exchange will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday,
March 30, in the Clayart Room at the Seattle Convention Center.
Here are the basics:
The Exchange is open to all members of the Clayart Internet Discussion
Group attending NCECA.
1. Pick a mug, or another ceramic object you=3D92ve made, for the exchange=
. =3D
Only
one item please. Since all the pieces will be put in bags for the
exchange, your piece must fit in a paper bag measuring approximately 5=3D94=
x
4=3D94 x 9=3D94.
2. Please place your business card or a handwritten card with your name
and contact information inside the mug. It would be wonderful if you would
include technical information on the card about the mug, such as
construction method, firing temperature, and glazes used.
3. Bring your mug to the Clayart room any time before the exchange is
scheduled and place it on the designated table. The sooner the better, as
we all love looking at the mug exhibit during the conference.
Since there is a very well organized stay-at-home exchange, the one at
NCECA is limited to Clayart members attending NCECA, who are able to meet
at the designated time for the exchange. We find it=3D92s much more fun wh=
en
you get to meet your partner face-to-face.
Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.
