Tommy and the rest,
Glad you enjoyed the teabowls....I respect your opinion =
greatly......unlike the guy who obviously spent too much money on his =
education and totally lost his purpose and his ability to feel....He saw =
the same pics you did....but he saw a long list of faults....poor =
soul......smuck........
The lost post(I didn't see it anyway) was about you and me and your =
special bowl.....I wrote that you and me had a lot in common in that =
while all the "artists" around here were sucking up to their professors =
and learning stuffHEHEHEHE ....we were doing....you in clay, me in =
whatever the next sign was made of.....and we did it right or we =
wouldn't have kept our jobs.....One time we had this guy that we gave a =
belt sander to and told him to break the gloss on a sign so we could =
repaint it......an hour later we found him sanding away .....he had =
already sanded through the board in places and was still going =
strongHEHEHEHE.....some people just don't get it......You and I had the =
ability not to screw up from the start, then we added many years of =
adding to that ability........Now we understand and enjoy absolute =
control over whatever medium we work with....We tell clay what it will =
do and will settle for nothing less than exact...Art is changing the =
state of a medium for a purpose...I bet you get laughed at by your =
fellows if you start talking art.........when you started making the =
special bowl you let the clay talk back....You asked the slave to tell =
the master.....You formed a connection with the positive side of the =
universe..you became one with the clay...no less....soon there was no =
you and there was no clay.....At that point there was no longer any need =
for communication.....only a bowl that needed to be made, and could not =
be stopped......I believe that is when fine(kickass) art gets =
made...that is when a little bowl takes a piece of your soul.......that =
is when you were praying.....that is when your prayers get =
answered....art does not come from your intellect or your skill, it =
comes from your heart
That is something all our academic friends have lost in the shuffle =
to find gobblegook words to explain the unexplainable....(clich=E9 =
time).....be careful not to mistake the end of your finger for the moon =
when you are pointing at the moon.....
I knew the secret even while I was doing signs and I never worked =
for the customer(fickle bunch)....I worked to nurture that connection to =
the universe....Now that I do art full-time I must be getting close to =
being declared a saint.....I have found my way to worship
I hope and would think that a clay artist of your stature would be =
able to spend more time worshipping with the clay and that there would =
be many such special bowls in your future

My god man, can you not take the slightest bit of criticism? Why did you
have to completely drain the validity out of Tommy's praise by summarily
dismissing one little bit of criticism? Why must you go even further and
blame it on education?

You dig yourself in deeper. This has never been true and never will be t=
rue
for you or for any other artist or craftsperson?

I don't know who YOUR academic friends are, but it is sad that they must
communicate in "gobblegook," whatever that is. All of my academic and
nonacademic friends get along fine and communicate perfectly well, and th=

nonacademics do not exhibit such anti-academic paranoia about their acade=

friends.
