Hi guys,
So, we built the extruder---paid $10. Can for the bumper jack :o) =
recycled everything else. We used
4" pvc pipe for the clay holder section, and=20
have a fairly tight fit for the plunger that is attached to the jack, =
which pushes the clay down and out.
The problem is I keep getting clay seeping out in between the pvc pipe =
and the
base of the extruder. I wondered if it was because the surfaces might =
not be perfectly flush?
Essentially the pipe just sits there without any compression to hold =
it into place,
other than the tightness of the plunger when extruding out the clay. =
So, now we are thinking we should
add a lip to the bottom of the pvc pipe. Does anyone have experience =
with this? Any suggestions? I'm looking forward to making dies, and =
actually getting a little production happening around here for a change =
and I need this extruder!

Gabrielle,

My extruder was built with three inch pvc pipe, so I can't say for sure what's happening with yours. I didn't have much clay seepage at all. I do think the end of the pvc tube has to be cut very straight, so it sits flat against the die.
You might try sanding it as smooth as possible.

The lady who built mine is coming over tomorrow, so I'll ask her what she suggests.
