OMG mel, I am forwarding this message to a friend of mine. Jeff's too. We
just about got into it over whether or not I am going to clean my wheel in a
co-op studio. I say, it's my wheel, in MY space, and there will be no bath.
When she came over to use my wheel once, she laid paper over the table part,
and looked at the whole wheel like it had cooties! Ack!

my wheel was all shiny and new in 1973. i washed and cleaned
it in 1986 when i had to tip it over and put in a new control.
since then, it just makes pots. i have never washed it. working
potters do not have time to wash wheels.
scoop out the old clay, put it in a 5 gallon pail. re/cycle it.
i bet tony c. washes his wheel every night, makes it shiny for the
next day. (or, he has sheila do it. not.)
i am very fussy about dirt in my studio as i let my trimmings
fall to the floor. just shovel them up carefully and add them
to water filled pails.
now, do as i do.
mine is the best way.
;)

Better listen to Nils, Mel - I saw some of his newest
work. Hard to find fault with it.

Dear Mayor Mel: Are you trying to get me in caca? Get Sheila to wash my
wheel, lordy, lordy I'd rather face a crocodile! My wheel was clean the day
I bought it. I feel guilty that it is never clean but I figure it is only
going to get dirty again tomorrow, so why bother. Does the guy with a
backhoe clean it every night? I don't think so. Mine is a working machine.
My treadle wheel on the other hand gets a regular cleaning. It is yellow
oak and I like seeing it clean. It is kind of like owning a 56 chevy. It
would break your heart to leave it dirty. The Pacifica is just a new Chevy
Impala. Nothing special really, but it does a good job day in and day out.
Like a Rock!
cheers,
Tony

Dear L,
As far as I am concerned it is your wheel.
Yes, it has cooties but they are your cooties!
Since she obviously considers you to be uncivilized
perhaps you should mark your territory by urinating
around the perimeter of your space!->
On a serious note, if you are not impacting the
rest of the studio e.g. leaving shared equipment
messy it is none of her business!
Too bad you cannot use Clayart's quick solution
to annoyances and hit the delete button!-0
Gayle Bair- who only cleans her wheel when switching
clays, when at an impasse or when company is coming.
That last one is really goofy!
