I was asked to do a throwing demo, so I wanted to have my wheel looking new. I washed it all up and everyone was so thrilled to see a potter. A week later the wheel started making funny noises, a few days later the motor locked up totally..
My suggestion echoes Mel's, there is no need to clean a wheel. Accidentally getting water in my motor was a big mistake, it cost $150 to have the motor rebuilt and could have been avoided if I just taken the wheel dirty; as it had been for the past 7 years.
