The Salem Art Association is proud to present Gil Harrison for a workshop
the
weekend of April 20th-22nd. Gil will start of this workshop with an evening
slide presentation on Friday the 20th showing the development of his work.
Saturday and Sunday will be spent demonstrating throwing and assembling
vessels with an emphasis on pulling handles, both as basketry and for
decoration. A propane torch is an integral part of his construction
technique and he will demonstrate the safe use of this tool to create
amazing
handled pieces. Gil will encourage questions and a dialogue about his three
decades of experience as a full time potter, making both decorative and
functional work at production levels and one of a kind commissions.

Gil is a passionate potter who has spent the last 30 years developing his
unique style of pottery. His skillful use of elaborate handles on baskets
and teapots have made him a staple of major art and craft shows across the
western US. His work is commissioned internationally for hotels and gifts
to
dignitaries as well as collected domestically by a group ranging from
museums
and collectors to TV's Star Trek Voyager.
