This is probably irrelevant to most of the problems I've been reading,
but for a year I was experiencing hip pain, very stiff in the mornings
and sometimes woke me up early. No such thing as sleeping in. Figured
it was aging and didn't bother to make a doctor's appt because I knew I'd
just be told to loose weight. Started stretching and it was somewhat
better. Was visiting my brothers for several days and realized that a
few days later I felt great even though I was sleeping on pullouts. Got
home and it started all over. Finally realized, in my case, it was just
the darn mattress - and not a very old one either.

Michelle's yoga class sounds like an excellent idea for hip pain.
I have found leg lifts with ankle weights to be very helpful.
Is hip pain common among potters? I suppose it is closely related
to sciatica and back pain, which have been discussed at length on
Clayart.
Thanks,

Cheryl,
I have to agree with your theory.
Many years ago my parents bought
a mattress and box spring for me.
They were of the school/belief that the
firmer the mattress the better it was for
your back.
I would wake with sore hips and pain.
Two years ago after months of
research and shopping we bought a
Stearns and Foster. Love it... Love it!
No sore hips, no pain and it's so comfortable.
It feels so good to lie down in it after a
long day!
My son who inherited our old mattress was having
trouble sleeping. We got him a S&F and his
sleep problems are gone.
They are not cheap. The sales people were
amazed that we were spending so much $ on
a mattress for a kid (17). However if you look at
the studies in the press about sleep disorders
it would seem to make sense to have a decent mattress.
If you are looking for the best prices write to me
offline. There is a system to shopping for mattresses.

Further to this subject. Think about it. We spend one third of our life
in bed. Why not have the best.
