Dear Dennis Mummert <>

There is absolutely no reason why Argon should not be used to displace =
air from the space in an electric kiln.

According to Prof Kingery and his co-writers, this will create a =
reducing atmosphere in you kiln. If you have the means to do this, then =
you could test the theory with some good copper reds. A positive result =
would give all the cone 6 electric firers something new to play with.

But you would need to consult the element wire makers as to the effects =
on their products. A lot will depend on the equilibrium reactions =
between the metals in the alloys and the partial pressure of oxygen, =
which should be measurable with an oxygen probe.
