I just got some more information on the Gail Nichols soda firing workshop we
are hosting on the weekend after NCECA, on March 6, 7, and 8. The total
cost will be $150, and that is a hell of a deal. The workshop begins at
2:00 on Friday afternoon, and runs through Sunday whenever we get done
unloading kilns and talking about the work. If you cannot show up until
Friday evening or Saturday morning you are still welcome, because we will
load one kiln on Friday night, and another on Saturday morning. That way
everyone can get some work in the kilns. Participants will bring a dozen or
so bisque-fired pieces. You will glaze and soda-fire them during the
workshop. While the kilns are firing, Gail will do throwing demos, slide
shows, and discussions on soda-firing technology.

As I mentioned in an earlier message, Gail is a much revered Austrailan
potter, and is just now finishing a doctorate degree in soda firing
technology. She is no doubt the first person in the world to receive a PhD
in soda firing. If you are committed to this firing process, you should not
miss this workshop.

Anyone interested in receiving more information about the workshop should
contact our secretary Gail Dost at gdost@tntech.edu. She also has a list of
area motels. There are some close by which are very reasonable. The
regular housing is filled with students during the academic year, so
workshop participants must stay off-campus.
Best wishes -

Vince,
You must mean APRIL 6,7,8. Sounds great. I love her work. Wish I could
