I have to sign off the list, probably until after NCECA.
Hope to see you all there.

next year.

i am going to suggest that we, clayart, with
some of the most talented potters on the planet...
rent a room in one of the big hotels.
not a nceca area...and put on our own
TOOL DOCTOR CLAYART.

get about 5 cool folks and do a presentation for
the world at large.
let anyone in:
show the world what a great program can be.
we could fill a room with 3,000.
and they would give a standing O (ovarian ovulation)
think about it.
mel
in fact if ticks keep selling, we will rent the whole
god damn hotel for a week. just for clayart.

Hi Mel,

At what point may we simply begin to have our own
Conference?

GO MEL GO!!!!! I think this would be a great thing. How are we going to get the word out to non-clayart
folks?
FYI in case you didn't know, NONE of the hotels is going to have NCECA events; all the NCECA stuff will be in
the convention center, and the hotels are apparently all around it from what the coordinator is telling me.

I would like to suggest that 3000 people in one room is more than too many, so I think we should have at least
2 sessions if possible. :)

Yep, lots of hotels around there...I have stayed at several doing ACC shows
there,....but they are pricey.....lowest is probably DAYS INN ( 2 blocks away)
then there is the Marriott, one block from conv. center-, Holiday Inn, about 2
blocks from convention center.....also the --HYatt that connects with walkway
to convention center, Harbor Court...over the top pricey...or you can stay in
the suburbs and get on the Marc (train) that stops right across from the
convention center.
See ya all next year!

next year.

I could not attend NECEA this year. I am dealing with a back / disc issue
and even though it was close enough and I had other clayarters willing to share
a ride and expenses it would have been difficult. For the second year in a
row I am grateful for the stay at home exchange where I am privileged to
contact my partner before hand and wait in anticipation for my box. I thank Chris
Schafale for that. I am sure it is a lot of work.

Perhaps, exchanging names prior to the conference would be a possibility. I
guess I see another side to the "students" or uninvited who participated. It
must be the teacher in me. If they gave something to get something, in some
respect I think it was fair. Not everyone knows about clayart. I discovered it
my accident and have stayed ever since.

This is our next generation if you will, they carted themselves across the
country on a bus. They have to have an interest or investment in clay and I am
sure were nervous about thinking their work was good enough to present. Even
I wonder about that. What a treasure to find a welcoming place and to take
away something so precious. Who knows how cherished that memory will be or who
it will bring among the fold to share. There is a lot to be said for
enthusiasm, as much as their is for experience - just in a different light.

Some of my most precious books were from a generous teacher who traded me for
some of my work. There wasn't enough money in my house to buy them and they
led me down this path.

Even though the exchange might be different next year I still hope to
participate. I would prefer their were no sign about the rules at the door, just a
welcome sign to the clayart room. Dawn

p.s. I got a wonderful mug at the LaCrosse conference and I don't know the
name of the person who gave it to me. I remember her face though, she has
coffee with me occasionally. I love the way that mug it fits my hand.

Regarding the Baltimore Convention Center -
It's a damn big place -
ACC Baltimore wholesale/retail show held there each year.
Several flexible sized meeting rooms on second floor.
No problem seating 3000 people.
Be just like freshman year art history class - lots of snoring!
Right down on the water front - will be cold next March.
