Cobus,
My recipe for using CMC is the following:
CMC 12.5 grams to 1 pint of water, or half a liter. It does not have to
be that accurate. It is not necessary to use hot water. If you add cold
water and let it sit overnight it will be ready for use. I would just add a
little more water to your mix, and use one spoonful of this mixture to 100
grams of dry glaze mixed with water, resulting in approximately 200 grams.
CMC is particularly good for use with slip glazes.
Here is a recipe for a bronze glaze cone 6, which works well on white
stoneware. It should be used for decorative purposes only.
Reynold's Gold metallic glaze cone 6 (Ceramics Monthly February '92 p.76)
Black Copper oxide 4.0
Cobalt oxide 2.5
Manganese dioxide 36.5
Ball Clay 4.0
Red Art Clay 49.00
Flint 4.0
My notes: apply thick, bronze gold, great on sculptural forms. Mia in
chilly Albuquerque
