COMMITTEE LAUNCHES WEB PORTAL FOR FEDERAL GRANTS
The Federal Commons portal will provide a comprehensive display window for
the more than $300 billion in annual grants that federal agencies offer to
the public each year. The General Services Administration (GSA) Web site
finally went online this December after years of hard work and
roller-coaster funding levels that have left it dependant upon volunteer
funding from agency budgets. The Federal Commons portal allows users to
search and find information on over 30,000 grant options, and GSA
officials plan to add online grant applications as well as an
application-tracking function in the near future. The officials hope that
President Bush and Congress will fund the site under Bush's 2001
e-government initiative.
