odd thing about my new brent cxc

It's brand new... But every bat I own is now, apparently, slightly off
"true". You can see the edge of the bat wobble when the wheel is spinning
(comparing the edge of the bat to the edge of the wheel head), but all the
bats fit snugly on the pins. Also, when I am centering at high speed, the
clay "shudders" and it is a dickens to get centered. High speeds also cause
the water in my bucket to vibrate. I've used over a dozen different CXC's
in the studio where I'm studying, and have never experienced these
difficulties. The wheel head seems true, and I'll dig up my fiance's
mircometer (got to love a guy with nifty tools) to verify that the bat pin
holes are also true.

Is there something wrong with my wheel? It's better when I throw directly
on the wheelhead, but I can't always do that!

Any ideas?

Christina, are you throwing with the awful black plastic bats
that apparently come with the wheel and have one hole that's
oval? The shuddering, especially at the critical point when you
are exerting the most force to center, is the bat slipping.
A local museum has six of these, and when I teach there I
have to immediately take the bats & pins off, and have students
throw directly on the wheelhead. Try other types of new bats, see
if you have the same problem. Good luck!

Christina,
A few years ago I had the same problem, tried everything then I discovered
some months later that my pins had worn down and allowed the bats to wobble.
I got new pins and the problem ceased; also since that time I've noticed
that on some of the older bats the pin holes enlarge with use.
