Luster may be applied over ^06 glazes as well as high
fire ^6 plus...glazes... It MUST be applied over a
glaze.,preferably glossy, you will then have a lovely
mother of pearl look..
Having used luster since about 1975...feel qualified
to give you advice..I purchase mine in pints from
Med-Mar in California..very reasonable compared to the
exhorbitant prices on the tiny 4oz. bottles.. My kilns
are in the garage....make sure your area is well
vented.. & finally I leave my lid cracked open until I
turn to "High",,then close,,, & when the kiln goes
off, I plug both holes & do not open till cool....

Luster doesn't HAVE to be applied over gloss (although that is it's
intended use). I have used it on unglazed and underglazed sculptural
pieces and followed that with a saggar smoked firing. The effects were
interesting enough for me to repeat on other pieces, but then... I kinda
like strange stuff.
