nceca saturday question and more

I've wanted to go to the annual NCECA pilgrimage since I started reading
about it on ClayArt, CM, etc. That is, for the last four or five years. It
didn't look like I would go this year, so I haven't paid much attention to
what is going on. However, last night I had an inspiration. It looks like I
may be changing jobs VERY soon. So why not give myself a between jobs
present? Since I can't afford to buy a Geil kiln, why not go to Charlotte for
NCECA?

I have frequent flyer miles that will cover flying across the country. I have
Marriott points, so I have a place to stay (at least there were rooms
available this afternoon).

So, what's my problem? Saturday. Will I miss a great deal if I fly out early
on Saturday? If I fly in Tuesday night, I can go on the tours on Wednesday. I
would like to fly out early on Saturday so that I can go visit my sister and
her family in Berwyn (outside of Philadelphia) on Saturday. (there is no
direct flight from Charlotte on United where most of my frequent flyer miles
are, so I will have to fly to Chicago and then go to Phillie, as absurd as
that sounds.) Then I will fly back to LA on Sunday. So, you veterans, will I
miss too much by flying out on Saturday morning?

Oh, and since the dress code discussion is still on going, what is the
appropriate dress for the dance Saturday night?

Thanks for your help.

Just contemplating the possibility that I may finally meet all of these folks
whose emails I have been reading for YEARS, including my neighbor, Joyce. The
potential is mind boggling.

There is no dress code for Saturday night, as there is also no dance on that
night. The dance is Friday 9-1. Sponsored by Clay Times.

The conference is sceduled to rap up at 1PM after a presentation by Ron Nagle, but
I unofficially would expect it to run 1/2 hour late. There is an board meeting
from 1:15-2:15 Saturday that all are encouraged to attend.

While on the subject I strongly suggest that the membership run for the board. At
present there are four board members who are or have been Clayart members. Jim
Connell, Elaine Henry, Ted Vogel, and me. I am a non-voting ad- hoc member. I
attend the fall board meeting so that I am more able to answer questions.
