I believe I posted a request for the latest views on the Chemistry of =
Soda Glazing. Am I to assume, since no one has contacted me or made an =
onlist posting, that the idea of Sodium Carbonate breaking down to =
release Carbon dioxide and Sodium oxide holds true. Are you telling me, =
through silence, it is proven chemistry that this happens and Sodium =
oxide fluxing free silica to make the galze.=20
Can someone who uses this process confirm current thought on the matter?

Ivor, =20

Yes, I believe that your right. You could check with Ruthanne Tudball's =
book 'Soda Glazing' but as I understand it what you describe is exactly =
what happens which is why Soda Glazing is no more environmentally =
friendly that Salt glazing where the salt recombines with the chloride =
to form salt again as it exits the kiln. Soda does not recombine.
