Did not mean to imply in prior post that
beginners should not be taken seriously.
The best teacher I ever had the occasion to
work with was sculptor and teacher Robert Hess
of Salem, OR.
A full time professor at Willamette University, he once
taught a night class in Sculpture at the local Community
College, where I was a visiting Ceramics prof.
Most of the students were beginners.
but he treated everyone as a pro.
On the first night
He boomed out
Now I want to to wear your hip waders to this class every night
because we are going to wade deep, right into it!
He believed if he set the bar high
and was fearless about what he
asked the students to do
they would do it, and they did.
with joy and determination.
He was also joyous and determined
He got more out of them than anyone I have ever met.
They worked their butts off and had a great experience.

gotta stop second guessing my own posts...
