glaze software review

Hi Will,

If you are interested in a review of Insight I would be glad to
consider it. I am a heavy user - average glaze and body revisions
must be in the order of 2 or three a day.

I would encourage you to find others who are heavy users of other
software as well - your book will be the better for it.

I am currently writing a book on stoneware glazes to be
published by the Crowood press here in the U.K. I want to write a
chapter reviewing glaze calculation software, so please all you potters
if you can spend a few moments letting me know which program(s) you use
and the pros and cons of them. I am not asking you all to write a
chapter of my book but feel that if I can collate everyone's experience
and publish it will be good for all.

I will of course credit all those directly involved and do my own
follow up research on the most popular software.

Many thanks in anticipation. Will

I have been using INSIGHT for a number of years now. I use the PC =
version. I do not know what the Mac version looks like, but I assume =
that it would have the same functions as the PC version. Maybe other =
members on the list can respond to the Mac version.
Since I started using it, it changed my approach to ceramic chemistry =
drastically. It saved me hours of work, and conversion of "foreign" =
recipes to Namibian raw materials was a breeze. Running theoritical =
trials through the program gives me an indication of what the results =
might be (comparing it with glazes that were calculated and which were =
fired). The whole Seger system started to make sense, as I could make =
it work practically. The accompanying literature "Magic of Fire" and =
"Magice of Fire Reference" are two magnificent pieces of work, and I =
learnt a lot from it. Living in this part of the world means isolation, =
and I had no one to turn to for advice. INSIGHT solved a lot of these =
problems. =20
Tony Hansen is updating the program continiously, and I look forward to =
every update to see what is new. As for backup service, this guy is =
FAST. Queries are dealt with promptly and to the point.
I do not know other glaze programs (I have looked at some), but it will =
be hard to convince me to change to something else.
