This would include commercial , village ,as well as home based pottery
Not to be contrary, but my first hunch would be that unglazed ware is
the most common. This includes ware with slip and oxide decoration.
I am thinking of all the continents which produce unglazed water
containers, (which keep water cool :Africa, Asia, S. Europe, Americas),
unglazed storage pots large and small, unglazed decorative work,(Mexico,
India, etc.) and brick , roof and paver tile too. So that's my first
vote.
Second guess might a lowfire lead based glaze, with or without
colorant. Many countries worldwide all still use lead based glazes,
especially as decorative outer glaze, or even where splashes of glazes
are used against bare clay.
Lead would factor in where fuel economy and firing temperature are a
factor.
