play at art and words and perceptions

I think basically the button pusher on this whole 'play' phrase is how others
see it....
and that extends way beyond just playing with clay... anything that is diff
than the typical work day, going to the office, putting in your 8 hours and
going home is looked at with a touch of envy by those who have that
lifestyle....
I quit my job 2 years ago, to stay home with my kids, and make my art...
so, I have people who think that i lie on the couch watching soaps and eating
bon bons all day, then go play with some clay for my 'therapy' to combat the
housewife blues... Truth is I work my ass off, and no one even realizes it!
I long for the moment that I can think only of myself, instead of the
schedules of 4, what to cook for dinner, when the next girlscout meeting is,
why my son is so lax at looking into colleges, after all he is in 11th grade!
who is going to help me with the garden this year, or will we just raise
another crop of thistles again. and on top of all that I have to be as
diligent as I can about producing and amarketing my work and myself as an
artist so I can bring in just a little money in order to not feel like a
drain on the household income. Unless someone works at their own business,
their own passions, they tend to think we have the greenest grass in town....
It is human nature to think that the grass is always greener on the other
side of the fence, the truth is those damn dogs run around and pee on
everyones lawn!
