art and craftsmanship - thanks

Thanks to those who shed some light on the pots I described in the student studio. I had not intended to sound judgemental of them; lord knows, my early works combined atrocious craftsmanship with the tackiest, most pretentious "artistic" alterations. (I taught myself with a reader's digest book, on a home - built wheel that went wobbledy-hop, wobbledy-hop....)

It makes sense that people who learn in a craft tradition will master craft first - and maybe not have the example/instruction (or interest) to lean toward the "artistic"; and that people who learn in an art program may not have the experience, yet, to master the craft part. I suspect that in either case, time and days and endless pots will provide what any potter needs, whether it be "wings", or thin, well trimmed feet ;0)

Thanks again to those who offered insights. Yours, Kelly in ohio
