Yo Mayor! I was also there and I think........
It was "bump the mouse" or "dude....bump the mouse."

I sat at a small restaurant table with several potters and the waitress
approached saying, "Hello ladies".....then, red-faced, she added, "and
gentlemen".
There were so many guys with pony tails in Charlotte that a local
stopped me on the street and asked if there was a hippie convention.
A young man (with a pony tail) told me that his father had been a
long-hair and that he had wanted to grow up to be just like his Dad. I told
him he was doing a great job and he smiled a big one and said, "THANKS !"
A retired banker told me that he had opened a pottery shop to keep him
busy. A friend had told him that if he had a pony tail that his sales would
double....he grew one.....balding on the top, with a 3 inch white ponytail
that he was very proud of. His pottery gallery is working him hard, VERY
successful..... and he is making enough sales to retire again soon (if he
wants to).
Not every guy had long hair.....some heads were shaved.....some
balding....some with hats or bandanas.......all very nice.....with thoughts
of clay stirring underneath and grins from ear to ear.

Did you tell 'em yes?
This is so funny, and true! It was the topic of conversation over one of
the dinners even. I think it is cute when a guy who is going bald grows
a ponytail with the "fringe hair". ;0)

Thought of something else along this line. I got in the elevator with a man
so obviously Japanese (he was wearing a kimono style jacket, in addition to
his facial features.) I had to ask him if he came all the way from Japan for
this conference. He said, "No, I hate to disappoint everybody, but I only
came from Pennsylvania."
I thought it was fabulous that so many came from other countries to NCECA.
I saw many kinds of Asians as well as folks from UK. Taube was hooked up
with a couple of Japanese girls via someone else she knows, and eventually
went in search of a translator I think. If you are from another country and
I meet you in person, look out, because I am nosy and I want to know ALL
about where you live! ;)

Hi. men in poney-tails, people looking for XXL tee-shirts,rebels that the
hotel police are after. This sounds like a place I would fit into nicely.
With a rebel yell I cry please don`t instigate more rules.Subject headlines.
It`s fine the way it is. Lela

Prior to the NCECA meeting someone posted a story about going up on an
elevator at the Denver NCECA where someone made the comment "I wish they
could sell more pots so they could dress better". Well I experience a take
off on that statement while riding up on the elevator at the Omni and this
years NCECA. Not recognizing me as a NCECA participant [I was wearing a
sport coat], A man turned to a woman and said "its not as bad as the rodeo
convention I got caught in a few years ago".

This is really funny because where I live..the Washington,D.C. metro
area...a pony tail is very fashionable. Techies all have them and if you
are a webmaster, web designer, own or work in a dot.com environment, this is
the way to look. There are so many guys with pony tails, and $1000 tailored
suits, it's hilarious to me...who also remembers the hippy years very
fondly....

ROFLMAO. I have to say that I was a bit intimidated in the clothing dept.
to the point of not packing until after Don and Tom got here on Tuesday
night. With all the talk of suits and ties, I was a little nervous about
sticking out in the crowd because I was wearing jeans. (Ok, I did venture
into a dress on Friday night, but only because it was hot as ^6 everywhere I
went...) Of all the 4000+ people I saw last weekend, not one that I met was
wearing anything stained by clay.

Merrie, thanks for the "picture" of the men. What made the women look more
"arty" and sell more, I wonder.

Opps, Rhonda.......I mentioned the pony tails because I really miss the
70s.
There were successful women in jeans, sandals, skirts and red heels.
Hair was tinted every color of the rainbow, and some was even natural. As I
walked with a group to a lecture, I overheard a man telling his buddy that
he didn't remember seeing so many attractive women in the past years of
NCECA.
I'm approaching my 50th birthday in June, and seem to be reminded daily
of new wrinkles and sags.....my daughter says to me, "Mom, just keep
smiling.....you will be a cute little old lady !" The women at NCECA were
attractive. It was from the glow of satisfaction that we wore, not the
hair-do or the outfit.
2001, great time to be a female potter ! I have the confidence and
strength to lead a 10 man crew in a wood firing, yet I can still get Tony's
eyes to bug out at my legs : ) (Thanks for noticing, Tony)
