Hi Ned:

Mix a batch of the glaze without the veegum and add it to the pudding until
you get the desired consistency.

Folks, I find myself with gallons of mousse.... of the worst kind, inedible!
I am searching for the cure, or this batch is lost.

It's a tested cone ten Tom Coleman glaze to which I added two percent VGumT.
I made that modification in this batch as I mean to apply it not on bisque
but on raw clay, and oncefire. Thought the Vgum was going to be a help but I
did I overdose, with the glaze already containing a total of 19 percent
kaolin and ball clay? I've now got several gallons of thick-stirring slop
that is under-dense. With a specific gravity of only 1.2, it looks gloppy,
applies thick, but after a few minutes on the pot what's left is a thin,
uneven layer with pore-like short fissures in it. Hopeless, unless I can
doctor it to a state nearer normal, but how?
Tips welcomed! I'll report back any success.

Since youve measured the specific gravity after the mistake i assume you
know what gravity your glaze should be before the mistake. Hydrometer or
triple beam and math??

I have two stabs at success for you.

guess 1; add material and water until you get the proper gravity.

guess 2; add specific material and water until you get a pleasant workable
viscosity to your glaze.

my thinking is if you double the amount of total glaze materials except vgum
t you change the % of v gum. or 1% of 200 is the same as 2% of 100
just a ranting thought, but I am not sure why it wouldnt work.

UH, whats this stuff look like when you fire it??
just thinking last week i added 2% v-gum t to a gerstley borate sub so that
it would gel like mouse and i could slather it on nice and thick
and it worked out very nice, only trick was candle the kiln till the glaze
is nice and dry.

best luck, sct
