kilns - l&l jd230 vs skutt km1027

Hi Shula,

I have a L&L JD230 that has been very reliable. I do like the dyna-glo
element holders. I am glad I upgraded the elements and thermocouples.
There are a few things a dislike about it namely the cheesy chains that
anchor the lid inefficiently to the kiln. You have to rig it so it anchors
to the wall so if you lean on the chains it won't fall on you. Skutt has a
much better/safer lid hinge system. The metal stand on the L&L leaves much
to be desired though I hear they have redesigned it.

I have the L&L vent system but am not sure it works that well. I called
several times for assistance but still have not resolved the problem as I
still get odors in the studio.

The Skutt I was familiar with was a workhorse used in a teaching studio. It
was very reliable took a beating and kept on firing. My L&L have been moved
twice and is still working well.

I agree that Bennett has the best prices. I saved money even though the kiln
had to be shipped 1700 miles.

The other issue is do you have a dealer that carries L&L parts or will you
have to wait to have them shipped to you. I have not had this issue yet.

Gayle Bair - no affiliation with Bennett outside of being a satisfied
customer
