mugs at nceca

kathy has the good sense to take the extra mugs
with her at the end of the mug swap.

nothing would hurt a person in our group more
than going back to the room, and find the mug
they lovingly gave, and find it alone on the table.

there are always two or three people that just cannot
get back to the mug exchange. it just happens....and
a few years ago, someone did not like their mug and just
left it. not good manners.

so, we take them.

kathy gordon is a very smart woman. she knows how
to run things, and cares a great deal for the folks that
are involved.

I was very late to the exchange and there were 5 mugs left with a note
to pick a name and take the mug. I got one, Laura Freeman's. I also was
sorry to have missed the crowd, but I had other obligations. I did
notice a lot of stuff still in the room. It looked like a great party.
Promise to spend more time there next year. The Omni semed so far from
the Adam's mark which is where I was staying. I have a wonderful mug to
add to my clayart collection. Who got mine?

I noticed some mugs left on the table when everybody was finished picking
theirs, but had no idea where they went. Did I meet Kathy?

Almost happened to me when the buses stopped running!!!

OY. I went to the NCECA mug sale on Saturday afternoon and there were about
20 pieces left. I say pieces because some were not mugs. They were spread
out over 3 tables, but still sad looking. What do they do with the left
over mugs?

I think we all have these fears... I was so worried
that the person who drew my name wouldn't like their
cup that I brought a second one, just in case... (I
most concerned that the nude figural motif I had used
would offend... The challenge of carving a figure in
reverse on a roulette doesn't appeal to everyone...)

I'd like to think that my fears and insecurities are
unsubstantiated, but as a handbuilder, I've had the
unpleasant experience of approaching the person who
got
my cup and finding that they were (unaware that I was
standing there) complaining about all of the handbuilt

"crap" in the cup exchange...

I was very relieved this year to find that my cups
(for
the exchange and for the Fellowship Fund sale) were
very well received.

Bright Blessings,

Andi Fasimpaur.

Like Andi Fasimpaur, and as mel mentioned, I had terrible doubts about my
mug. Mugs. I brought two, one that really appealed to me, and one that I
thought was a better crafted mug. I put the one that really appealed to me
on the table, then went down later with the other mug, looked at the two
together, and left the first one.

I was sitting in the Omni lobby talking when the woman who got my mug sat
down behind me. She read my name from my card. I introduced myself before
she could manage to say anything that I wouldn't have wanted to overhear.
She was kind.

I am not such a good potter, not yet. I am bad with handles, though I am
improving with practice (I will accept any handle tips anyone has). I have a
pretty good eye, and I like my ideas, but I simply have not thrown enough
yet to ensure that what I want is what I get. That will come, I know, but
still, it's tough to put one's little mug out there with so many that were
so beautiful.

Truly, this collection of mugs we made was the most amazing sight. There
were so many on that table that were so gorgeous, so well made, so full of
character, it took my breath away. Did anyone take photos? The talent and
skill sitting on that table was something to behold.
