vince pitelka's summer workshops in n.w. wa

Now that the Summer Workshops edition of CM is out, and with NCECA finally
getting smaller in our rear view mirrors, it seems timely to remind you all of
Vince's workshops being offered here at my "farm" once more this summer. We
may not do this again for a while, as I have the place up for sale. Not
allowing new occupancy till the first of October though, so the workshops can
go off this Summer without any problem...

This summer, Vince is offering two week-long workshops here:

July 23rd to 27th "Handbuilding Extravaganza" offers "Exploration of new and
unusual approaches to handbuilding, with a focus on good sound coverage of the
basic handbuilding processes, allowing those who have never handbuilt to get a
good foundation, and allowing those with some skill to move ahead
significantly."

July 30th to August 3rd "Decorating with Slips" offers "We will explore
preparation, coloring, storage, and application of slips, monochrome and
polychrome slip-painting, sgraffito, ways of using slips with textured
surfaces, slip-layering, slip-trailing, feather-combing, marbling, wet/dry
distressed-slip techniques, and terra
sigillata."

Cost of either workshop is $300 plus clay usage. All other materials are
covered. Participants are welcome to camp out on the property (though our
facilities are rather Spartan) in tents or vehicles, and most would find
joining in our shared meal preparation to be a tasty and economical solution
for meals. There is a B&B right next door for those that prefer (and can
afford) more "civilized" accommodations.

Michael,

Is there still room in the handbuilding workshop? If so, please send me
the postal address and I'll send you a cheque. It's going to be a
little weird since Eileen is at a horse clinic the weekend before so we
will have to get someone to look after the critters for a day, but it
should work out. I'd hate to miss it, especially if you are going to
move.

Things are ok here. Haven't been in the studio in a dog's age but I
have been doing some house stuff, walking the dogs, and swimming which
does wonders for my disposition.

Hope all is well with you.

Evan,

Thanks for writing through the list. It reminded me that I'm due to post
notice here of the workshops again. At this point we are around half full for
both the workshops. That's enough to assure that we'll pull them off again
without worrying about cancellations. It would be nice to sign up another four
or five people for each though. It will be great to have you here again! The
snail mail address at which to send your deposit is:

within a
mile and a half, but it's really nice not to have to drive. The facilities are
open at all times, and the campfire burns late...

PS. Thank you, Evan, for the nice compliment to my mug! It warmed my heart and
strengthened my confidence as I went off to face an often less than
sophisticated audience at the Farmers' Market today.
