Dear Clayarters,

I'm trying to set up a potter's co-operative in a recently closed
commercial pottery in North Wales. I read about the Ann Arbor Potter's
Guild in CM Dec. 2000 and would like to know more about their
organisation and other co-ops/guilds - I'd like to learn from your
experiences. Unfortunately I can't find any information on the web about
Ann Arbor, and not much about any other organisations, so can you help
me?

I'd be grateful for info. on web sites or e.mail addresses of any
co-ops/guilds or a direct response from anyone who feels they can help
me. You can contact me directly if you prefer.

I'd be very grateful for any help, comments, experiences or suggestions.

For those of you who are interested, it's cold, wet and very grey here.
I'm up in the mountains, about 4 miles from Janet Kaiser's Chapel of
Art, surrounded by sheep, and foot and mouth free!

Thanks,

Jacqui

TO JACQUI AND ANYONE INTERESTED IN FURTHER INFO ON SETTING UP A GUILD...

Please send/include your snail mail address to me (Gail). We have a woman
at our Ann Arbor guild (not on e-mail) who has graciously agreed to mail
out some stuff she has compiled with more detailed information about our
setup. She has been in the AA guild longer than anyone currently there, and
has observed a lot.

We also have copies of our catalog/guild history (from our anniversary
show) at $12. It is a quite special little book with tons of photos
including about a 100 in color. Axner is now carrying it too.

By the way, Jacqui, my 3 Border Collies would love to be where you are!

Welcome to Clay Art, Jacqui! So relieved to find a
North Walian potter has finally joined in! I do hope
you will be able to tell the world about North Wales
Potters Association and keep us updated about the clay
scene in general? First hand information is always
better than hearsay!

I am glad you have taken the plunge after "lurking" a
while. I am sure many experienced guild, co-op and
non-profit organisations will be able and willing to
help with their experiences - good and bad. I hope so,
because a lot of public money has already been invested
in that venture you talk about and it would be a shame
to see it all go to waste.

Of course I speak with a certain amount of
self-interest. The CoA needs good work and would
welcome a thriving centre of the type you are seeking
to set up.

Glad to hear your sheep are healthy! It is grey and
miserable down here on the coast too...
