nceca mug exchange

updated fri 12 mar 10

Sheron Roberts on fri 6 apr 01

I agree with all the previous posts
about the mugs and anxiety.

Is it good enough, what will people
say, is there a pinhole I missed,
too goofy, or too plain? I had
fondled and felt every inch of
every mug I had made, looking
for flaws or anything that would
bring negative comments from
the group. This was my first
Clayart mug exchange (with
exception of the stay at home
exchanges) and I must say it
was every bit as nerve racking
as the first time I submitted a
2D work to a show. I wasn't
as concerned about what the=20
juror would think or if I would get
into to the show as much as=20
what would my friends think. =20
And
I like to think of Clayart as friends
even if I didn't get to meet each one
personally. My eyesight is such that
I could not read the names on the
name tags unless I took my glasses
off and stared at your chest. I didn't
do too much of that. Wish I had now.

I would really like to know who got my
mug. But maybe they are not online,
maybe a student who came with some
one on Clayart. It was glazed with
Kemp 17 and had a carved sea serpent
handle, carved around the base also.
If you got it, just say hi.
Thanks,
Sheron in NC (just getting around to reading
the volume of literature carried home from
NCECA)

i have just returned from a three week trip and want to thank the person =
whose
mug i received at the clayart mug exchange. unfortunately i put the name=
tag in
a very good place and, of course, by now i have forgotten where it is.

let me describe this mug-it is a porcelain mug with an overall tom colema=
n red
glaze and has 3/4 the way down on the outside and inside a purplish
glaze-probably it is a white base over the red. there is also a thumb re=
st on
the top of the handle. it is a wonderful mug- well balanced and extremel=
y
comfortable to use. the bottom reads : Lee and 3-1

i would love hearing from the potter whose mug it is.

thanks again.

you do not have to write the entire
list saying `i am in`.

just show up with your mug.

Hi Kathleen,
I sent this to your email, kgordon@batnet.com, twice and it came back to me.

I left a mug for the exchange and was so busy talking to friendly claybuds
( my first time in the clayart room) that I forgot to sign the red book.
I received Ron Roy's in the exchange!
Thanks for all your work,

Does anyone know who plans to replace our
Super Efficient and Person Who Inspires
Great Fun Kathleen Gordon .... as CEO of
the Mug Exchange in Indianapolis this March?

What about Kathleen's Committee of Loyalty
and Trustworthiness which was more or less
headed by fish-pursed and red workboots
shod David Hendley? Is David continuing?

This group worked incredibly hard for several
years ..... deserves the break they're taking.....
will be difficult to follow...... but follow we
must. The room is reserved. Tell me, please,
who plans to do what when..... so we can
coordinate the festivities.

It's well past time for that reminder of the clayart mug exchange in Baltimore. Hopefully not too late for people to get ready.

Details to follow.

David Hendley if you're reading this, please contact me. I can't access my old clayart files and address book.

I see there is some confusion about the clayart exchange.

-mugs are still welcome before Friday. We all like having them on display.
-the official time is 6:30 on Friday

When David and I took over from Kathleen we chose to make a few changes.

#1: to streamline the exchange and make it faster we decided to place the mugs in brown bags instead of having people select a card to draw a mug. It still kept the drawing random but speeded up the process considerably. In the past we needed at least a half hour to alphabatize the mugs and collect the business cards for the drawing.

#2: We also wanted to come up with a way to have the exchange be solely about meeting the maker and less about just being part of a mug exchange. There are so many people on clayart who don't know each other and we wanted the exchange to be a way to meet someone new. To this end we came up with the idea of asking people to return to the clayart room in the hour before the exchange. They picked their mug off the table, handed it to David. David gave them a ticket and a "mugette" took the mug, placed it in a brown bag, and placed it back on the table. Shortly before the exchange, we clear the room, remove all the unclaimed mugs, shuffle the others around and then let everyone back in to select a bag. When the exchange was over, we bagged the unclaimed mugs and set them to the side for people who came later to draw on the honor system.

As always there are people who can't make it to the room for the official exchange. They are still welcome to leave mugs. The only difference is that in the past those coming later for the exchange selected an undrawn card, then located their mug. Currently, those drawing later will be drawing from a much smaller pool of only those unable to attend the actual exchange.

Thank you Jennifer for the Good News, I was worrying a
little. Maurice is one of my favorite Clayarters, always worth
reading and frequently very funny in a dry understated way. Cheers
me right up he does.

Good News! I just heard from Maurice who has been having distracting
home issues, but he will be leading the Mug Exchange. You all will
hear from him in the next few days. Muggettes - he will be in touch!
Jennifer, relieved.

why not just have it at Steve Tobin's party?

We could meet in the ClayArt room a half hour before meeting the bus for th=
e party (is that bus still the plan?)...or an hour before. Maybe some mug =
exchangers aren't up for the party & could stay and chat in the ClayArt roo=
m.

Veena Raghavan on thu 11 mar 10

Hi everyone, or anyone who can answer this for me.

Did I miss a post with information on the date and time of the mug exchange
in the Clayart room. I do hope it is going to be in the Clayart room and
not at the party, as I will not be going to the party and would hate to mis=
s
the mug exchange.

Thanks in advance.
