I'm not a potter, but a potter's partner and a techo at that.
As a mirror to her ease with all things clay and difficulty with anything
technical, I maintain all of her equipment and design tools based or watching
her deal with difficulties... and freely admit that I will never grasp the joy
of contact with mud ;-)
I have just finished the second complete (radical) rebuild and replacement of
the switch box on her Crusaders and took the time to take pictures of the
process.
The primary goal of the design was to make the wiring of any single element
easily accessable without disturbing any of the other elements' wiring.
If there is interest here, I will build a web page detailing the design and
process in hopes of making life easier on other kiln maintainers... (I still
vividly remember my first excursion into the wiring cage ;-)

Thanks for the positive responses on an article about replacing the
traditional wiring/switch box on electric kilns.
First draft of the pages should now be found at
http://home.swbell.net/behoward/ along with the obligatory alarmist
warnings. (...the need for which having been underscored this week by a
hot pickle)
This is my first use of this web site space, and I had a hell of a time
posting to it, so let me know if you have any problems. (it appears to
be _case sensitive_)
Feedback is solicited and appreciated, and the only return I get from
projects like these, so I value it.
If you are a beginner to rewiring kilns, I wrote a detailed article for
_Studio Potter_ some 6-10 years ago that should help any electrical
beginner as well helping to understand some of the fundamentals of
240vac two phase wiring.
I can't even find my copy to post an exact date, so if someone has it
(had blue/red/yellow graphic cover) please post the date for me.

The reference is Studio Potter 15:1 (1986) pp27-29.
