correction, addition on fire barrier -- was insulation

Hi all!
Please accept a retraction of my statement that, "...you can gain
additional safety by making a simple wall protector
from a sheet of inflammable material...."
I meant, of course, a non-flammable material. My humble, red-faced
thanks to Vince Pitelka for catching that error.
Meanwhile, Tom Buck suggests corrugated, galvanized metal as an
alternative, non-flammable material for constructing an air-gap between kiln
and a flammable surface. Thanks for that idea, Tom!
Any sort of NON-FLAMMABLE material would indeed work.
Apologetically yours,
Dave Finkelnburg

Hi Dave- say, I have made a few of those
kind of errors too. Don't feel too bad
about it-I would guess most everybody
knew what you meant anyhow. Sometime
try explaining the difference between
flammable and inflammable. -Reg

Reply:
Dave, age catches us doesn't it? When we were kids, flammable and
inflammable were opposites, but now mean the same and the word non has taken
over.

Cindy,
I can't resist this one, flamed or inflamed as we sometimes get on discussion

Can't resist. Actually "flammable" is a fairly new word. You know all tho=
se
trucks that carry "flammable" stuff? Well, they used to carry "inflammabl=
e"
stuff, only most people thought that meant "not flammable". It actually
means easily inflamed. As the general goal of the labels on these dangero=
us
trucks was to communicate with people, the more easily understood word,
"flammable", was invented for the purpose.

Allo Cindi,

maybe french is a little bit backward: it is still "inflammable" in our
language.
Flammable would make everybody laugh.
