while in the japanese studio we would often
have to use little pancakes of plaster to set our
thicker bottomed pots on to dry. the water was
sucked from the thicker bottom as the rim dried.
in many ways, the pot would even out in dryness.
if you are having trouble with drying, try this trick.
the discs were cast in the bottom of a small plastic
container. we would fill them all with plaster, dump
out the disc the next day.
set them out in the sun to dry. we had hundreds of them.
much would depend on the weather as to how we would
use them.
i get very nostalgic when lee talks about his life in the pottery in
mashiko. it is identical to what i lived in kyoto.
