My new kiln from Seattle Pottery Supply was delivered today. Built by =
them to my specs using one of their "stock" sizes as a starting point.=20
The new one is a 30 x 42 oval with an extra 1 inch of insulation on all =
sides. Suspended elements, side elements and also in the base. The =
controller is a Digitry, that I ordered separately, and had them =
install. Nice, quiet mercury relays finish it off. I'm using it for =
glass, so it's built for a max of about ^3. I do plan on using it for =
some low fire tile projects though.
With all the concern over fuel cost and more responsible firing, I think =
it's great to work with the kiln builder to get exactly what you want. =
Many brands can't offer that kind of individual service. Shipping may be =
a bit higher to some places, but mine just came over 2600 miles of ocean =
to Hawaii and the added efficiency makes it worth it. (Figuring in the =
surcharges etc, we've been paying about 20+ cents / kw for a long time =
already.)

Before you buy, call SPS and compare. I was pleasantly surprised at what =
I got for the money.

It may sound like a blatant plug for SPS, but I'm just very pleased with =
their products and ease of working with them. I'd like to see other =
potters get the same satisfaction.
( I've had another of their kilns for 7+ years without a single problem. =
)
