tony,
i really do not have a negative on
your shino names.

i am concerned that people know that
what is being done with carbon trap shino
has nothing to do with the ancestor/root
shino from japan.

call it what you will.
i call mine `gloria nelson shino`
and `wally lovely hair shino`.
i also on occasion call it, `wazzzo, bango neato shino. or, `black
beauty`.

but, most often i call it `shino made in mel's studiominnetonka, minnesota, usa. jli8923bzllq8621. (c.)

All Shinos are recreated glazes, even the ones in Japan. Shino r=
ecipes
were lost to the world and had to be reformulated. The main advantage t=
he
Japanese have is access to the possible original materials. The Japan=
ese
shinos are often fired as long as 2 weeks. Soda ash reduces the amoun=
t of
time needed for the iron coloration in the American, or should I say, Min=
nesotan
Shinos. :^)

On slides, I lable my shino glazes the way MacKenzie does by sayi=
ng
"Shino Type Glaze."

In you article Mel, is a shino I got from Linda Sikora when we w=
ere
both at the UofMn. I gave it the name "Linda's Pink Shino" but it is o=
nly
pink when there is 5% pink mason stain added. The shino by this name =
in your
article does not have the stain in it, but is still called Linda's Pink. =
It
was fun to see it in CM. You can also add one of the new yellow stains=
to get
Linda's Yellow Shino. I actually like the yellow better than the pink=
=2E
