Hello all,
Please go to our web site if you would like to see a temperature chart.
www.ortonceramic.com It is located in the reference library section and c=
an
be downloaded. A hard copy can also be obtained by contacting Orton
directly.

Ababi and to others that are confused,
The temperature that you see on your controller may be higher or lower th=
an
a published cone temperature at the end of your firing depending on how s=
low
or fast your kiln can fire compared to the ramp rate that you have
programmed into the kiln controller. It is always a good idea to have
witness cones in the firing so that you can compare the amount of heatwor=
k
achieved to what the controller tells you. I would be glad to discuss thi=
s
with anybody if you have questions. Please contact me at 614-895-2663 ext=
..36
or send an e-mail. I find it much easier to explain some of these concept=
s
when I can talk to you directly.

Best regards,

Tim Frederich

In Israel as far as I know, and in Europe too, there is a limit use of
cones.
When I got my new kiln, the builder explained me how to raise the firing
speed and also told me that as raises up temperature, the kiln slows
down, the it kind of lose power, and fire slower, the way it should be.
If I will have in the future an American kiln, I might use the cones.
The only times I use the cones are in raku, when I want to keep the ware
above "shiny-glaze" temperature. I understand the logic of the cones, I
think it is a great idea. It confuses me when I use one software that tel=
ls
me that ^6 is 1200C and another that tells me that it is 1220C Sometimes =
it
does not matter, but sometimes it melt or dry.
