Hi All,
I have been experimenting with the elusive copper family of reds and
flambes and am hoping to pick the collective brains of those who have had
experience in this area. I have checked the archives, read Tichane's
book, and the chapter in Ian Currie's book and am fascinated with the
"oo-la-la" effect of some of these unpredictable glazes when things turn
out. I also have read an article in CM about Robert Hilton's work in
this area. What I especially am trying to achieve is more of the flambe
effect, with red, purple, and blue runs or mottling. I should add that I
achieve good, consistent results with Coleman's Vegas Red and Pete
Pinnel's Cranberry Red and in fact use them a lot. Flambe or opalescent
oxblood is my next hill to conquer!
So, my question is basically for practical experience from those who have
ventured in this area. I am curious as to techniques in consistently
keeping the glaze the right thickness since very few glazes are applied as
thick as these. Also, any experience people have with
underglazes/combinations that help control the run or enhance the effect.
I also would be most grateful for any recipes folks may have that have
consistently worked, although I have a few.
Thanks in advance from a reluctant "poster" who mostly lurks!
