it is the one constant that we have in clay. cones.
pyrometers, even the best ones...digital, analog are
just helper guides.
it is so great that we have tim at orton's to help when
we need him. he is a long time potter that understands
what we are facing. when i do not trust my cones, and
mess with my head....well, bad firings happen. when cone
10 is over....and touches the kiln shelf...then the firing is
done. not a hour or minute before. one learns the hard
way...far too often.
my birds are coming home. ducks, geese, those wonderful
flocks of large ravens(over 60 yest.). nuthatches, rose breasted gross b=
eaks.
and then this week about 5 varieties of spring warblers. i can
hear them first...out in the woods..then they come to get a drink.
humming birds this week, then the orioles. saw two indigo buntings
last year. stayed for weeks. (we have two pair at the farm)
thrashers, robins, flickers and our pair of pileated wood pecks.
the list is so long that i have sore fingers typing.
we now have thousands of bluebirds...one man started a house
project...guy named peterson..now they are back in full glory.
had three male turkeys in the back area at the farm...fanning, being
male and macho....what a sight. ( i spotted a flock of turkeys that
numbered well into the thirties this fall.) the male partridge's are drum=
ming.
well, anyway.
it is going to be 80 F in minnesota tomorrow.
spring. what a concept.
mel
the ravens are crazy at the edge of the flood waters...eating worms
i think. messin and cawing all day long. smart buggers. i have chickad=
ees
that eat seeds as i am filling the feeder. had two land on my head
while sitting still in the deer stand. ( i was eating granola bars)
`hey, wally, what the hell is this huge orange thing we are a sittin on?`
