Shigaraki, like almost all traditional clays in Japan, is a naturally
occurring clay. There are feldspar inclusions in the clay. If you
wanted to approximate the look of Shigaraki clay you could wedge some
feldspar chunks into your favorite clay. I would suggest mixing some
porcelain with a low iron stoneware to get the the orange flashing on
some of the Momoyama period pots. The feldspar should be somewhere
between 10 to 25 mesh as a guess. I has been a long time since I threw
Shigaraki and that was only one time.
