aol, lost messages & internet access (was "lost in space")

Hi Shula...

Your experiment proves my original hunch that this problem is AOL related. In
the last few days this is what's happened in my email box in comparing with
the posts I found in the Clayart archives:

05-05-01 7 Clayart messages received from AOL - 29 in archives
05-06-01 8 Clayart messages received from AOL - 41 in archives
05-07-01 20 Clayart messages received from AOL - 31 in archives

An obvious discrepancy here.

I got a "live tech" from AOL online with me today and explained the situation
with Clayart and AOL and not receiving all the messages. He basically told me
that all he could do is notify the "system administrators" of the problem and
wait for it to be fixed. I asked him to have these "system administrators"
contact me with their findings and assure me that they are working on the
problem. I am very skeptical that they will do anything about it or even
contact me, but I figured it was worth the effort. My only other
alternative... find another ISP.

By the way, these archived messages do seem to be a little on the skimpy
side. 30-40 messages verses what was for a while there almost 100-120 per
day? Is my information correct, or has the amount of traffic dwindled a bit
on the list?

Anyone out there who can recommend a really good ISP that's very reliable
regarding receiving all your Clayart messages? EarthLink? Hotmail? Yahoo?
I'm currently paying $21.95/month for unlimited access to the Internet on
AOL. Would like to find something competitive or less.

As far as getting a faster connection then my lousy Pacific Bell will allow
(2400 bps - 3200 bps on a good day) using a 56K modem... I'm pretty much
screwed. I can't get DSL where I live... too far away apparently. I'm
considering a cable connection through my local rip-off artists, Adelphia
Cable... but waiting to find out if we're moving or not this year as I don't
want to sign a long contract. (Adelphia just raised our "extended basic"
cable service another $1.50 - now it's a whopping $46/month - without digital
or premium channels)

I am currently paying $25 bucks a month for unlimited internet access plu=
s
space (mine is unlimited but is has since changed to 500mb) on the server
for my website. I have two email accounts that come from my site (ie
chris@ccpots.com and my site name was registered for free if I stayed a
year. The link is www.abac.com , A+ net out of SanDiego. Haven't had a b=
it
of problems with them and their tech people are always there. I had
terrible problems with aol and was glad to get off them. But it took a
couple of calls to have charges removed after I canceled, don't let them
give you that free extra month, or if you do, make sure to call back and
cancel again. I got charged for two months because I didn't call back to
'Confirm' my cancellation. chris

I've been happily using a local ISP for 4 yrs. now. It's =3D
great--connection on the first dial, no problems with messages. Rates =3D
are about $15.00/mo. for unlimited useage. The biggest advantage is that =
=3D
if I have a question I can stop by their office and talk to their tech =3D
person. Sometimes small is better.

Chris...

Thanks so much for your feedback. I'm still deciding what to do about my
ISP... but once I know whether we are moving this year or not it will be
easier (wife is in the midst of a job search at this time).

Thanks again!
