Ceramic Art, Majolica, and Woodfired Pottery by Selfridge
http://www.compusmart.ab.ca/selfridg/ah,so%20you%20do%20it%20for%20the%20=
ash.htm
Regarding the recent mention of Judith Duff's train kiln:
Judith doesn't seem to have her own site on the web, but three
of her pots are viewable on the Selfridges' site indicated above.
(Use the "Edit", "Find" function of your web browser.)
They are incorporated in an article by Richard Selfridge on
combination wood & gas firing experiments. There are many images of
excellent work by Richard in this genre and by various colleagues,
and there are some photos of Tatsuzo Shimaoka (these latter taken in
1982.) The images are of good quality, and not huge, so you can
probably take the time to view them all.
I have two caveats.
One is that the only way (at present) to view some of the pictures is
to click on a highlighted word in the text. Most of these lead to an
image of a pot. This is great, but it's not obvious that the links
are to images, and you could miss them. (Some pots are viewable on
the main page and these are also "clickable" to view a larger image.)
Two is that I wish that the text would wrap to the viewer window
size. I use an older version of Netscape, version 4.7, and even if I
decrease the font size to minuscule, a line of text doesn't fit the
page, full screen, at 640x480 desktop size. It might be possible to
change your desktop size to 800x600 if your monitor and video software
permits this. The font would then be rather small, but probably it
would all fit into a full-screen window setting in your browser.
Otherwise, a great site.
