Someone I know who works at a museum has asked my opinion on a matter
which I have no expertise in, so since someone on this list knows
everything there is to know, I'll ask here.
This museum has discovered a trove of Howard Kottler plates from the
late '70's or early 80's. There are a bunch of them, either 25 or 50,
I'm not sure which. They are from the time when he was doing the
decals, and they were made specially for this museum. They have the name
of the museum on them and the date "2000". Evidently they were made
ages ago with the intent of their being sold much later as a collector's
item.
So... it now being "much later", the museum would like to sell them.
Granted, they might have been worth more if they had actually discovered
them last year instead of now, but..... And, of course, in the time
since they were made, Mr. Kottler has passed away.
So, the question is, how much might they be worth? Does anybody have
any real idea? Anybody seen any of Kottler's work for sale anywhere, or
seen any similar items by any other artist of similar reputation?
If the museum does decide to sell them, I'll post a notice here, but
please don't reply to the list that you'd like to buy one at this time.
Thanks,

Paul- the museum needs to contact the American Art Pottery Assoc. or try to
get an appraisal. David Rago or Suzanne Perault @ Perrault-Rago Gallery
609-397-1802 would be helpful. They deal in pottery and tiles, they are into
arts and crafts but also into a lot of other stuff too - very knowledgeable.
A good place to start to get an evaluation.
good luck
