I am quoting Cathrine Tucker Windom, one of our southern writers
and a regular on NPR. She said"never plant bamboo" It will take
over".
Well she is just one more person I didn't listen to. I planted it, I
love it and I fight it from March til December. mine went under the
house to come up in the front yard. I expect to see it coming up in
the shower one day.

Hello to All ,
All these horror stories about bamboo.
Down here to get rid of bamboo , the practice is
to cut down the clump , and place old tires on the
stumps and generate great heat .
Or cut down and plant Ochroe [ okra ] on the clump
or salt the area.
This is usually done to the very tall , 12 inch thick
bamboo stalks .
At the worst a backhoe can remove the clumps.
Strangely enough , my house is surrounded by a
fence of "Chinese Bamboo " , has been for over
50 years [ we are the second occupants ].
Stays right where it should . Well behaved , grows
to 15 ' or so .
Best of luck to you all ,
Khaimraj [ West Indies / Caribbean ]

Lowell....... You jest, but I have heard of a gentleman that had a large
ficus tree on his property here in Ft. Lauderdale (Florida, USA) and he did
in fact have his shower tile crack and fall only to find ficus roots behind
them! Never underestimate mother nature!
