My wife and I own an old, and rather unusual, earthenware "weinstube" in the form of a medieval knight ...we think it's several hundred years old, from Germany or Austria. The manufacturer's mark looks like an eidelweiss (small multi-pointed star). We've checked several of the well-known references of European manufacturer's marks, but have not been able to find it. Is there a place/person where we could send a picture of the weinstube and the mark that might be able to identify the piece for us?? Thanks.

I am having trouble with the word "Weinstube", which
translates into a "wine bar" in English. Could you
explain what it is? A wine jug or a drinking vessel?

Could you also please say whether the mark is painted
or impressed? Have you looked through a magnifying
glass to see whether it is a star (equal points) or an
Edelweiss (short and long points)? Without seeing
either the object or the mark, there is very little
likelihood of being able to help you further...
However, I doubt it is "several hundred years old" from
the description we have so far.

Hello Chris,
May be you could send a picture of your "weinstube" to the
Keramikmuseum Westerwald
Lindenstrasse
56203 H=F6hr-Grenzhausen (Germany)
or to
T=F6pferei un Museum im Kannenofen
Kleine Emserstrasse 4
56203 H=F6hr-Grenzhausen (Germany)
and ask them...
in this part of Germany they make a lot of beer-fountains, may be also
wine !
Sincerely
Fran=E7oise
