turpentine and aol

Hello,

I think Ababi was only making a statement not a directive for sniffing
turpentine. Also the alarms are once more ringing off the hook over this.=
It
goes without say that normal people would not intentionally sit and sniff=

anything just for the fun of it unless that are ab-normal or children and=

those who don't know better. Children shouldn't have the benefit of getti=
ng
into chemicals in the first place if an adult is in control of the situat=
ion.
If an accident happens or a child does get into things they should not,
responsible care and attention should be given and some education for fut=
ure
referencing. Dr. Basterache might have something on this as well? I wish =
Mary
simmons was still a part of this group too!

Toxicology:
Mucous membrane and eye irritant. Harmful if inhaled at high concentratio=
ns
(>750 ppm) over an extended period. Please don't educate me further on th=
is
(off-list)unless you are a toxicologist or medical person.

As a kid I was subjected to one drop of turpentine in a tea-spoon of suga=
r. I
didn't die or at least I don't think I did? Lol. Every chemical
organic/inorganic has a zone of potential misuse and danger therefore the=

manufacturers are required to make it known for such potentials. Notice t=
he 5
gallon buckets we mix glazes in that says they are dangerous and never le=
ave
them unattended. It means a child might fall over in them and drown.
Everything is an accident waiting to happen.

AOL - Last remark on this one. I do believe that many times the fussing a=
nd
bantering sessions we sometimes see here are the result of our mail not a=
lways
getting back and forth in time and the loss of such mail on occasion. The=

writer many times never see's a response and will send in another rant or=

start a new thread for discussion/debates. I sent one in the other day an=
d
never seen it and my wonderful apprentice made a statement to me that she=
read
it. I said I never got it and was about to send it again. We sometimes wi=
ll
write something to explore the idea of something and when we fail to get =
a
reply or it gets hacked out we tend to think our moderator has took sides=
and
the ball drops once again. (I don't think Mel would crop a post without s=
aying
so?)I am still mad as a wet rooster about my Mgo/MnO thing I wrote that g=
ot so
many people in a tizzy where I had reported my mistake within 5 mintues o=
f my
original letter. One that never, ever made it out. By the time I opened m=
y
mail I had been crucified, hung and buried. My defense went out the windo=
w. So
now I write my piece, look at it, read it twice and decide if I can live =
with
it regardless of the issues one might drag from it. Good or bad this is a=

family group of people who do pottery and glazes. We can share if we like=
or
argue. Its a clear choice! Disagreements without merit can be a burden ho=
wever
and those who like to analyze other peoples work without ever testing the=

first or original work seems a bit strange for my tastes. (Some glazes ar=
e not
going to be in limits for them to work. It also does not mean they are to=
xic
either.)And not everyone here are english majors. some are from other
countries and do really well to have to speak or write in english! Some a=
re
more into the chemistry of it and others are more into the making of pott=
ery.
Some enjoy indulging! I write what I can defend most times! But a good de=
fense
is worthless when advocates work in harmony and attempts to diffuse a per=
sons
ability are in place behind the scenes. Also e.mails that are lost in spa=
ce is
the worse part of it all! All people are valid as well as their informati=
on.
You need not apply it to your own methods/understanding and no one will t=
wist
your arm to do it either. Who here is without mistake? Mel is excluded!
